Tree Planting
Planting a new tree on your property is a long-term investment. The choice of species and planting location should be made with careful consideration. While Arboplus does not currently provide planting services directly, we are working toward offering this service in the future. In the meantime, our expert arborists can guide you through the decision-making process and refer you to trusted planting partners.
Choosing the Right Tree
At first glance, the selection of a tree often comes down to aesthetics or personal preference. In reality, it is one of the most important investment decisions you will make for your property. The tree will significantly influence your landscape design, and in some cases, even the safety and condition of nearby structures.
Beyond species, mature height, and canopy density, location is equally critical. The tree must be suited to the region’s hardiness zone, soil conditions, and the diseases or insects already present in the area. Its mature size must also be compatible with the available space.
Tree Planting Considerations
The best times to plant a tree are in the fall or early spring, during dormancy. In the fall, planting should take place after leaf drop. In the spring, it should occur before bud break. That said, a high-quality tree from a reputable nursery—properly maintained and transported—can often be planted successfully throughout the growing season.
Proper handling during planting is essential to encourage healthy growth and long-term vitality. It is equally important to ensure that the new tree will not interfere with underground utility networks.
A well-executed planting sets the foundation for the tree to become a true long-term asset. Every step matters. As the saying goes, it is better to plant a $100 tree in a $200 hole than the opposite.
Tree and Shrub Care Program
Arboplus offers a vegetation care program designed for larger tree and shrub landscapes. The goal is to preserve long-term health and sustained growth through regular inspections and proactive care.
Our arborists provide expert guidance and apply targeted treatments when needed. Preventive maintenance is included to preserve structure, appearance, and vitality while reducing the risk of decline.
Soil Amendment
Every tree planting project should include proper soil amendment. Improving the soil’s physical and biological properties is essential for long-term success. Fertile soil allows the new tree to establish more easily and develop stronger roots.
Compost remains one of the most effective and natural amendments. Rich in minerals and living organisms, compost corrects many common deficiencies found in urban soils and improves moisture retention, promoting steady growth.
In addition, Arboplus recommends the use of mycorrhizae (MYKE® PRO) during the first two years after planting. When combined with compost, mycorrhizae offer measurable benefits, including reduced watering needs, establishment up to twice as fast, and increased survival rates of up to 75%.
