Emerald Ash Borer Treatment
The Emerald Ash Borer and Arboplus' Solution: TreeAzin
Over the past decade, a destructive insect has been attacking ash tree species: the emerald ash borer. It has already caused devastating losses and should not be taken lightly. To be part of the solution, Arboplus has partnered with Antidote Arboriculture, a certified TreeAzin application specialist. We want homeowners to know that the most effective solution currently available is TreeAzin—a proven, economical bioinsecticide.
How to Identify the Emerald Ash Borer
The emerald ash borer was first detected in Canada in 2002 and has since been responsible for the loss of tens of millions of ash trees in Ontario and several U.S. states south of the Great Lakes. This invasive insect is recognizable by its metallic emerald-green color. Its larvae exit the bark of ash trees through distinctive D-shaped holes. These larvae are what ultimately kill the tree.
As they feed, the larvae create S-shaped galleries beneath the bark, disrupting the tree's ability to transport sap. Over time, sections deprived of sap die—eventually affecting the entire canopy. Infested ash trees may also produce shoots at the base, but this is not enough to compensate for the internal damage. If you notice these symptoms, contact Arboplus for a free estimate for treatment injection.
Ash Trees Must Be Protected
The ash tree is one of the most common urban trees in our communities. Landscapers have long relied on it for its resilience in city environments, its beauty, and its rapid growth.
For Arboplus, these qualities are exactly why this species deserves protection. Without proactive measures, we risk seeing ash trees disappear from our cities—meaning entire streets could lose their tree canopy.
A Collective Effort
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has taken action to slow the spread of the infestation. Transporting ash firewood outside regulated zones is strictly prohibited. In Quebec, regulated areas include Laval, Montreal, Terrebonne, and several cities on the South Shore. Ash products cannot be moved beyond these designated zones—even to a neighboring municipality.
TreeAzin: A New Tool in Arboplus' Toolbox
As part of our ongoing commitment to eco-responsible practices, Arboplus now offers TreeAzin trunk injections. Derived from neem seed extract, TreeAzin is a bioinsecticide proven effective against the emerald ash borer epidemic.
TreeAzin works much like a vaccine. It is injected directly into the tree, where it circulates internally and protects it for more than two years. An infested ash tree can often be saved—provided that no more than 30% of the tree has been compromised.
At Arboplus, We Prefer Treatment Over Removal
Removal is always the last resort. From an aesthetic, ecological, and financial standpoint, preserving and treating a tree is often the smarter choice. When you consider the cost and complexity of removal, TreeAzin injections are simple, efficient, and cost-effective.
To learn whether this option is right for your ash tree, schedule a free appointment with an Arboplus estimator. We'll explain the benefits clearly so you can make the best decision for your property.
